Gil and Christie Elichai are the two components that make up Elichai Furniture, a small, independent woodworking studio based in the Arava desert in Israel.
Our aim is to create unique furniture that is designed and produced for the specific needs of each project. Taking into account every small detail so that the final piece complements the space and style of the individual.

Starting from humble beginnings from a small shed on our balcony
our love and passion to create only grew and expanded. The
boundaries of time dissolved and we found ourselves spending more
and more time absorbed in the process of creation.
Gil focuses his time on designing and building solid wood furniture
with a use of traditional carpentry technique. Using a combination of
modern machinery and hand tools.
After completing his studies at ’HASADNA‘ School of Fine
Woodworking he fell in love with the craft and decided that this is it!
From that moment starting his own workshop was just a matter of
space and time.
We believe that our resources on the planet are limited and that we
need to use each piece of wood with full consciousness and grace.
Working with the wood so it can tell its own story and allow it to
become the showcase of the piece itself.
Christie delved into a world of making lights. Incorporating elements
found in nature to create beautiful unique lights that add a touch of
magic to your home. Designing onto dried gourds and drilling holes to
create a lantern effect. Playing with light, it reflects patterns into the
space making it an immersive experience. Each piece invites a little
bit of nature into your home, trying to bridge a connection between
man and nature. Each base is also made specifically for the piece with
form, shape and material carefully thought about to complement the
design of the lamp.

The start of each lamp is the start of a new journey. Each piece is unique and no lamp is ever the same. The process begins by looking at the shape of the gourd and seeing how it can come alive. Patterns, shapes and forms unfold and each project is an evolution of my imagination alongside consistently trying to improve my skills and techniques.
Light has the ability to transform a space from day to night and reflect an atmosphere that projects into the souls of each person. It has the ability to transform a space that is stale and mundane in to a warm, enchanting and inviting atmosphere and this drives me to continue to develop this craft
Sharing a little bit of the process behind what it takes to create a lamp. I host workshops where participants can get a taste of designing and creating a lamp for themselves. Each participant is taken through all stages of the process, starting with design. They are then taught how to use the tool safely and effectively and at the end of the workshop leave with their own magical creation. It is a wonderful way to experiment with your own creativity using materials that many have never worked with before.

Yes. The construction of the furniture is done carefully and with an emphasis on the strength and structure. Considering that wood is a natural material that is affected and reacts to its environment, the types of wood joints are diverse and allow the tree to “continue living” also as a piece of furniture. With minimal maintenance and suitable for the environment, the furniture will be able to pass from generation to generation.
Yes, we can also deliver the products to your home. But we invite you to come to our workshop to make your own impression. To feel, touch, smell. Invite all your senses to be a part of the creation process. It is important to say that most of the items are delivered when they are already built and cannot be disassembled and reassembled. Sometimes a special installation is required, for example, when it comes to shelves. We of course, will help guide you to what is most convenient to suit your needs.
Workshops are held for 4 hours and I do all the preparations before you arrive, cleaning and preparing the gourd with all the electrics. When you arrive we will talk about the design process, the techniques of drilling on the gourd and how the machine works. I explain how to create simple patterns that are effective which I frequently use when creating lamps.
Then its your turn to design draw and drill, I am there each step of the way to help and at once we are finished we showcase the magic of your creations. At the end of the workshop everyone leaves with their own lamp and base ready to placed in your home.
Cost of the workshop is 380 ILS.
Workshops can be organised as private events or you can join one of the dates that I advertise.
